Just Updated
I did Andonian Armed Forces Remnant/assets already, but I need to still go through the rest of the factions and add their assets in the same style.
Also, the only three assets the template knows about right now are Template:Assets/lookup/Base Of Influence, Template:Assets/lookup/Franchise, Template:Assets/lookup/Postech Infantry. (Yes, those pages look really weird, but it's because their only used by Template:Assets).
Also, I have unit specific notes, and asset specific notes written, but it doesn't work as random pharagraph tags get mixed in; not really sure how to fix it so I just hacked together a solution in css to stop it from happening (.fixMultiTemplates p { display:none;}
) (I think it's from having a template situtions like this [page calls template assets] -> [assets calls lookup] -> [lookup calls asset page] -> [asset page calls entry page] -> entry page returns info...and then all the way back down) I made it so my css hack isn't needed anymore (removed all the white space causing the issue), but I have to remove it, and have yet to figure out why it's causing the extra info to be weird, I'll need to investigate more.
Documenation for list of gm turns stuff I got from adam, and it is here.
I also made Template:Infobox Faction today, which took a good 8 hours :/
Known Issues:
- The "New Message" forum box isn't transparent; I couldn't find the right element to fix it :/
- The new visual editor's (if when your editing the url is ?veaction=edit your using it, if it's just action=edit your not) toolbar & other stuff isn't transparent, I completely forgot about the visual editor while doing the css because I don't personally use it, I'll fix it at some point, it still works fine as far as I can see, so no real reason to worry that bad about it right now.
So the other day loveload made a mockup of a new wikia design, and feroxcrypto was willing to do the css work for it which can be seen on his test wikia; I copied the css to my test wikia and changed the background to be inline with what we currently have.
His wikia currently has a bug that the background turns to black when you scroll down, this is because the image isn't a very good background image, we'd need to make / find a better one unless we did my approach.
Everyone's thoughts? Yay or nay? Background image or no?
No point in keeping everything in a single thread since there's a whole board ;)
I created an {{Infobox Asset}} for incorporating the stats and info directly from the GM turn (leaving a redlink here as a to do)
I only got a chance to add that for Fate's Rangers so far but then I wanted to add basic info + the infobox on Nika Starlight, but then it hit me how much spoilery it would be for players (not sure if any even visit the wiki) and perhaps some spoiler sensitive viewers (those ignoring GM turns on purpose)
So what do you think? Should we pass on adding such info from GM turns, limit the info to obvious assets like Fate's Ranges and leave out spoiler heavy like Nika is (I'm in denial) actually an assassin or just keep all.
There's one more way to approach this – combining first and the last :P What I have in mind is a gadget enabled by default that every logged-in user could disable in their preferences. In its basic form it requires a single css class that would just display:none
elements we want to hide. In the slightly more advanced it would also display a notice that there is more spoilery stuff on that page and how to show it. But that still requires deciding how do we approach spoilers from the GM turn.
I'm going to just copy paste the Todo list from Project:Todo Do List here, and then redirect said page here.
Peace_maybenot To-Do-List. Any others who wish to help out, feel free!
>>>Make Pages Look Better! (and applicable with mobile devices)<<<
- To Summary Pages:
-Add Memorable Quotes section
-Create short summaries (ep. 4, 10+)
-Include a Statistics section (dice roll averages, kills)
-Edit Status Report section to reflect episodes (add 'Rough Estimate' to debt of Swan Song needed to be paid)
- To Character Pages:
-Fill out character pages (kills, quotes etc.)
-Paraphrase skills section instead of using rulebook descriptions
- Incorporate things said in Faction Turn with the wikia
- Get rid of links to reddit (like newsnet, excluding picture references) and replace with an original page on the wikia [maybe?]
- Make 'Episodes' and 'The Crew' into buttons with hover-over effect? as opposed to links (main page)
- Don't need walls of text on main page. Not sure how to circumvent. Probably change 'The Swan Song Universe' to 'New To The Wiki?' and change some wording around.
-> Also for example, instead of saying, 'Adam takes control of the major players in Asgard Sigma in a (turn based) mini-game that takes place apart from the regular play sessions (they can be viewed here)'; have the 'here' link be a button/img that people can click on that says where you are being re-directed to (like the wordmarks that are added), and then have the explanation be a caption underneath the button. This should get rid of walls to text and make things look a lot better.
-> (Relevant to: 'Systems And Planets', 'Major Factions', 'The Exchange News' [can be a redirect to its own page in the wikia as opposed to being shown on the main page], Technology, Fan-Made Creations)
- Transcriptions / Videos with subtitles doesn't need to be on main page if it is already included in the episode table
- Change the main navigation bar on the top of the wiki to be something that people can use if they want to
- Possibly link to the built-in wiki IRC / live chat thing on the main page?
- Incorporate polls? Forums?
- Add embedded soundcloud players for all of the 'exchange news' GNN stuff? -- Note from link123451, I had started doing this, but it took up a LOT of space, so I stopped (it's the reason I switched it to tables in the first place haha)
- 'Other Links' on the main page looks better than before, still don't like the lists of links. Not sure how to change, possibly drop down boxes? Or expand/hide wiki tables? I think it would be nice to have most every link available on the main page which is why I included them in the first place. -- Note from link123451, I thought so to, which is why I had asked you what you thought, but I couldn't really think of a better way to do it without it being just information overload, plus the way I have it now makes adding content in the future easier because you just need to remember to add it to the category, but it doesn't look ideal...
- 'Miscellaneous' is there for me because I would often want to go to those pages. They can technically be taken down. I would probably incorporate the 'to do list' somewhere on the main page though and have it be a thing that people can interact with.
- Under 'Swan Song Music', the page takes a little while to load. Not sure if there is an option to 'load when uncollapsed' and if putting them in a collapsible table would help this problem. Also, the page has been newly renovated, however; the background pictures on the embeds kind of make the page not nice to look at. I would probably add some kind of marginal spacing between the embeds. -- Note from link123451, I'm not sure about the load times (I believe html still loads collapsed elements, but at least it would be hidden?), but set visual = no on the template and it will show like it does on Template:Exchange News instead
Link123451 Done List:
